VIN is an abbreviation for Vehicle Identification Number, which is 17 characters long where the last 6 characters are always numbers. VIN can be found on the title documents in for a vehicle or on a vehicle itself.

Find the VIN on a vehicle

  • Inside the driver’s side door
  • Under the hood
  • Dashboard on the driver’s side

Check the vehicle documents

  • Title documents / registration
  • Insurance policy / insurance card
  • Service records

Don’t hesitate to ask the seller

Always check the VIN number before buying a used car. If you don’t have access to its documents, call the seller and tell him you need the VIN.
